The 9th and Lincoln Orchestra (htttp://www.9thandlincoln.com) will be recording the debut CD on June 5-6th at Mile High Studios in Denver. Look for a release later in the summer! Congratuations to Tyler Gilmore and Wil Swindler for putting it all togeter.

I have accepted a new position as the Instrumental Music Director of North High School in Denver Public Schools. I will be in charge of rebuilding the instrumental music program there. I'm really excited to get to work and relieved to be employed with a full time day job!

TOM BALL: fishleather jacket Fresh new straight ahead jazz compositions featuring euphonium as the lead instrument. This album is a great collection of swinging, inspired, exciting tunes superbly interpreted by seasoned jazz musicians.

The Tom Ball quartet performed at Grusin Hall at the University of Colorado Imig Music Building in Boulder Colorado on May 26th at 2:30pm. Performance featured Ball on euphonium and conch shell, Geoff Cooke on bass, Mitch Chmara on guitar and Ben Makinen on drums and percussion. The group performed a mix of jazz standards and original compositons by Tom Ball.

The 9th and Lincoln Orchestra is the brain-child of composer/arranger Tyler Gilmore. This 17 piece jazz orchestra performs every month at Dazzle Jazz Club premiering original music composed and arranged by Gilmore and other members of the orchestra including Wil Swindler, saxophonist in the group, who is a major contributor of material. The group’s members are comprised of Colorado’s best jazz musicians. Members include public and private music educators, college students, music professors as well as full time free-lance performers, many who have their own CDs and performing groups. This orchestra is unique in that each month, new works are rehearsed in a workshop format and then performed the same day. The writing is fresh, innovative, and always different.

On Sunday November 26, 2006 the orchestra performed 6 original arrangements of Bjork compositions at Dazzle. Many of the group’s musicians were featured including Wil Swindler and Art Bouton on alto saxes, Tom Ball on euphonium, Peter Sommer and Dominic Lali on tenor saxes, and Kenny Warren and Kevin Woods on trumpets. The show was completely sold out and many people had to be turned away at the door.

In the works is a follow-up concert of the Bjork material and a CD project next year. Check the Dazzle Jazz Club Calendar for up-coming dates.

In the Fall 2006 publication of the International Tuba Euphonium Association's quarterly journal, there is an extensive review of the International Tuba Euphonium Conference that was held this past June at the Lamont School of Music in Denver Colorado.
